The colors for Rec709 to be rec709 should fall within its color gamut range. First think of what Rec709 (or whatever - DCI-P3, 2020, etc.) is? It is just a color space. So okay, let's do away with any 3rd party luts and just say you have some footage that you brought in from camera, for ease of discussion, you have a log footage you took using a log profile. You did contrast, stauration all with color wheels and curves. Imagine you color corrected log footage without aplying a Rec709 lut.

My question is more how to convert ANY (!) Footage to Rec709. Alternatively, give film convert a call or email them to ask the same question. If you want to treat the profile as a corrector, then you could (not saying it will be correct) put a color space transform with input as "Timeline" for color space and gamma, then the output as "Rec709" for colorspace and "Gamma 2.2 or 2.4" for gamma. Just drop the profile you like and then in adjust to taste with correction node placed before it. When you buy film convert, you're buying convenience so you don't have to do much grading. Once applied, they are not meant to be reprocessed after. You correct in nodes before applying such LUTs. But what I want to learn is how to convert an already high contrast image converted into a Rec709.įirst of all, I want to say that most film convert profiles are not correction LUTs.
